Trying a new sport can feel exciting and a little daunting. Your daughter does not need to have played water polo before. She just needs to be able to swim confidently and be willing to give it a go.

Getting started

Please arrive about 10 minutes early so there is time to meet the coaches and get ready. We’ll explain what the group will be doing before everyone gets in the pool. If your daughter feels nervous, let us know—we’re happy to help her settle in.

In the pool

Girls practise the skills that make water polo fun: moving through the water, treading water, passing, catching and shooting. Coaches adapt activities to the group, so newcomers can learn the basics while girls with more experience can keep developing.

There will also be chances to play in small teams. It’s a way to put new skills into practice, talk to teammates and enjoy a game together. Having a go matters much more than getting everything right first time.

What to bring

  • A comfortable, secure swimming costume

  • A towel and a water bottle

  • A hair tie if needed

Please remove jewellery before getting in the pool. We provide the water polo hats, balls and other equipment, so there’s no need to buy specialist kit for a first session.

We hope your daughter leaves having learnt something new, met other girls and wanting to come back. If you have any questions before she joins us, please get in touch.
