Why We Started NextWave Aquatics
Girls often drift away from sport as they get older. NextWave gives girls in Hampshire more chances to play water polo, make friends and keep enjoying the game.

Why we started NextWave: keeping girls in the game
Many girls enjoy sport when they are younger, then find it harder to stay involved as teenagers. In a 2022 study, Women in Sport found that 43% of teenage girls who had once considered themselves “sporty” had disengaged from sport after primary school.
There is no single reason. Feeling judged, losing confidence, changing friendships and schoolwork can all play a part. We started NextWave Aquatics because we wanted girls in Hampshire to have another place where they could play, make friends and keep enjoying being active.
A place to learn together
Water polo gives girls plenty to work on together. They learn to pass and move as a team, encourage one another after a missed shot and try again. Some girls come along with years of water polo experience; others are picking up a ball for the first time. Both should feel that there is a place for them.
More opportunities as girls grow
We want girls to have chances to develop their skills and enjoy competition, with support from coaches and teammates along the way. NextWave works alongside local clubs, giving girls extra time in the pool and a route towards more regular water polo.
Keeping girls in sport starts with making sure they want to come back next time. That is what we are trying to build, one session and one game at a time.
If your daughter can swim confidently and would like to try water polo, email contact@nextwaveaquatics.com. We would love to hear from you.
